Procrastination can make you do things that you’d not expect and I started reading The Children Act by Ian McEwan on such a whim to avoid working on setting up this very blog. Considering that I bought the book on ibooks by mistake (I was trying to buy Sweet Tooth instead) and that it sat in my library, untouched, for about 4 months, it ended up well: I read through the whole thing AND I got the blog up and running.
Even though I liked the book very much and read it in less than 24 hours, what fascinated me was that I couldn’t help but picture Laila Robins as Fiona Maye following her performance as Martha Boyd in the fourth season of Homeland. Sadly, I was familiar with the phenomenon as it happened to me on almost every book I’ve read after seeing a tv/movie adaptation of it and always regarded it as a weakness of mine as a reader. This recent experience was different in that I managed to do it with characters that are worlds apart, in works that are completely unrelated. And that I thought it would make a good blog post.
